Titan Airways has secured a five-year contract with Airbus to operate its employee shuttle between Hamburg/Finkenwerder and Toulouse/Blagnac, taking over the service from Volotea.

Flights began on August 31 using Airbus A320-232, G-POWM (c/n 2564), which is initially operating under lease to Titan Airways Malta. The aircraft is due to be re-registered as 9H-ZTE later in September, becoming the first passenger aircraft to operate under the carrier’s Maltese AOC.

Volotea had operated the dedicated Airbus shuttle since November 2019, latterly using an Airbus A319.

The 180-seat Titan A320 will be based at Hamburg/Finkenwerder and is fitted with Acro Series 3 seats offering a minimum 29in pitch.

Alex Harrington, chief commercial officer at Titan Airways, thanked Airbus for its “trust” in awarding the contract and praised the airline’s team for its work in preparing for the launch.

“We are excited and proud to be operating this contract for such a prestigious client as Airbus and look forward to reconnecting with clients new and old in Europe,” he added.

Titan said transferring the aircraft to the Maltese register would also allow it to offer the A320 for ad-hoc charter and wet-lease work within the European Union without the additional complexities associated with operating a UK-registered aircraft.
