With its centenary approaching, Marco Sansavini, Iberia chairman and CEO has unveiled the special livery that will adorn some of its aircraft next year.

Speaking at a ‘100 Days to 100 Years’ event in Madrid as the airline began counting down to January 1, 2027, Sansavani said: “The centenary events will pay tribute to the more than one billion people who have flown with Iberia over the past 100 years, to all the employees who have made every flight possible throughout this century and to everyone whose family, business or cultural ties have been strengthened by our connectivity.”

As well as celebrating the anniversary and the future the livery also looks the past with a series of the airline’s logos through the decades adorning the starboard side of the fuselage. Which aircraft it will appear on remains a mystery, although Airbus A320neos and A350-900s form part of the order backlog and may be prime candidates. Existing aircraft from across the fleet could also be included, as Lufthansa’s did with it’s ‘Super Crane’ livery earlier this year.

Iberia’s primary centenary event will take place in June 2027, (it was founded on June 28, 1927), at La Muñoza, it’s operational base and MRO facility located to the south of Madrid/Barajas. As well as other events in the Spanish capital, celebrations will also take place in some Latin America cities, namely Buenos Aires, Bogotá, Mexico City and São Paulo, where new ‘Iberia Spaces’ will open. There will also be a book and a documentary charting its history and the testimonies of those who have shaped it. A special flight – IB100 – will symbolically retrace the century shaped by the people of Iberia. Further celebrations will be announced in due course

In June 2025, the airline announced it’s €6bn Flight Plan 2030, comprising new aircraft, cabin retrofits, Starlink Wi-Fi connectivity, and the new Sorolla lounge at Madrid/Barajas which opened recently. It has also increased its long-haul fleet from 43 aircraft at the beginning of 2025, to 51 now, with the intention of reaching around 70. The addition of eight A321XLRs since October 2024 has enabled the carrier to add destinations such as Orlando, Recife, Fortaleza, Toronto and Monterrey to its network.
