Vietnamese low-cost carrier Vietjet has become the fifth passenger airline to confirm services from Western Sydney International Airport (WSI), with flights to Ho Chi Minh City due to begin in January 2027.

The airline will launch twice-weekly services between WSI and Ho Chi Minh City on January 10, using its Airbus A330-300s, which are configured with 377 seats.  From March, frequencies will increase to three flights per week. Vietjet’s Thai affiliate, Vietjet Thailand, is also planning four weekly flights between Western Sydney and Bangkok from November 2027, subject to regulatory approval.

Vietjet becomes the fifth passenger carrier to commit to Sydney’s new airport, following Qantas, Jetstar, Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand, and the third international airline to announce services.

The Ho Chi Minh City route is being supported by the NSW Government’s AU$16m Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund, established in partnership with the airport to attract new air services. More than 500,000 passengers travelled between New South Wales and Vietnam during 2025.

WSI will open for passenger flights on October 25, 2026, with Jetstar operating the inaugural departure to the Gold Coast. Air New Zealand will follow with Auckland flights on October 26, while Singapore Airlines launches a daily service to Singapore on November 23.
