Highlights
- In this issue of Airliner World we travel to the Maldives to profile the inter-island floatplane operations of the two local carriers, Trans Maldivian Airways and Maldivian Air Taxi. We visit Italy’s primary gateway, Rome/Fiumicino and examine the airport’s plans for a major expansion which, it hopes, will make it one of the leading hubs in Southern Europe.
- We look at low-cost carrier THAI Smile, the national carrier’s budget arm, to find out how it plans to expand its operations in Southeast Asia. Maintaining the exotic theme, we profile Argentina’s military airline, LADE, and have a picture spread covering some of the visitors to Celac 2013, the recent international government conference held in Santiago, Chile.
- Airliner World goes behind the scenes of the new movie ‘Flight’ and find out how the crash scenes were filmed, and we look to the future as we find out from Thales what passengers can expect from the next generation of in-flight entertainment systems. We hear first-hand about the trials and tribulations of starting a new airline from its former chief pilot, and feature a report from the UK’s Air League concerning the lack of airport capacity in the southeast of England.
- The April issue also incorporates our comprehensive coverage of worldwide news including a preview of the proposed merger between American Airlines and US Airways, Ryanair’s latest attempt to acquire Aer Lingus, Malaysian Airlines’ joining the oneworld alliance and details of a €9 billion order from German national carrier Lufthansa. Also included are all of our regular sections covering the latest commercial aircraft acquisitions, up-to-date accident reports and developments from the world of aviation training. We review a selection of books, models and DVDs and offer readers the chance to win a year’s subscription to Airliner World in our caption competition.
- Finally, the latest edition also includes a free 32-page UK and Ireland Airlines Guide supplement, listing over 2,000 aircraft in use with 50 operators.
