Airliner World March 2022

In the March 2022 edition of Airliner World, we start our journey in the Middle East as we speak to not one, but three top executives from UAE-based budget firms – flydubai, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. We find out how each carrier is navigating the fiercely competitive market both at home and abroad. For those passionate about historical subjects, we have a treat for you. We look back at the development of the iconic Boeing 727 as the much-loved trijet approaches 60 years since initial roll-out, we have a fascinating feature on female aviation pioneer, Winifred Brown, unveil the nail-biting events from Flying Tiger Flight 923, and carry on cruising with Cunard as it made inroads into the aviation sector. Returning to more contemporary themes, Airbus A318 turned 20 in January, and we analyse why the ‘Baby Bus’ did not reach the same heights as its stablemates from the A320 Family. Meanwhile, as Eastern Airways began Public Service Obligation (PSO) rotations between London/Gatwick and Cornwall Airport Newquay, we find out why such flights are an important lifeline.

Airliner World February 2022

In the February 2022 edition of Airliner World, we celebrate 40 years since the Boeing 757 first took to the skies. We explore the origins of the highly successful narrowbody, from design to service-entry, and its rise to prominence, including a look at the stretched -300 version and discuss the 757’s appeal as a valuable cargo platform. a technical cutaway of the -200 along with key facts and figures on the 757 programme are also provided. Elsewhere, editor-at-large Gordon Smith attended a prestigious invite-only event in London as Group CEO of Qatar Airways, Akbar Al Baker, took the floor to answer hot-topic questions including those on the Airbus A350 and 777X. Meanwhile, away from more traditional airliners, Andreas Spaeth experienced a rare chance to fly like a billionaire onboard VistaJet’s state-of-the-art Bombardier Global 7500. Shifting from contemporary to historic, we have not one, but two fascinating book extracts covering chapters of South African Airways and Air Atlantique. We also investigate the VFW-Fokker 614’s troubled development and service career as well as, intriguingly, how one example is continuing to train aircraft engineers in the UK.
