Vietnam’s Vietravel Airlines has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Airbus for 50 new aircraft as part of the carrier’s plans to expand its fleet and international network.

The agreement, exchanged in Paris on September 10 in the presence of Vietnamese President To Lam and French President Emmanuel Macron, covers 20 Airbus A220s and 30 A321neo Family aircraft. The latter are expected to include both A321neo and long-range A321XLR variants, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2029.

Vietravel says the mixed fleet will support its medium- and long-term network strategy. The smaller A220s are expected to open new direct links to cities and regions with limited air connectivity. The larger A321s will provide additional capacity on higher-demand services and allow the airline to expand further into international markets.

The deal represents a significant upscaling for the airline, which became part of the T&T Group following a restructuring that began in late 2024. Vietravel has since increased the proportion of aircraft it owns and accelerated fleet growth.

Its current international network includes Bangkok and Shenzhen, while longer-term ambitions envisage expansion across Asia and potentially into the Middle East. According to ch-aviation data, its fleet currently consists of a single A320-200 and four A321-200s.
